When a temporary employee is assigned a Service Expiration Date, it is a good time to look at the work being done and the needs of the department. Should that position still be set up as a temporary position?
If so, then work with your employee to schedule a break in service. A break in service needs to be a consecutive four months (9 full pay periods) during which NO temporary work is performed (CT/NT/XT) and must occur no later than the Service Expiration Date. You will need to submit a stop job to UA HR to end the position at the start of the break in service. After the break in service is completed, a job form and appointment letter with the new assignment dates will be needed to start back up.
On the other hand, if the position is better suited to being transitioned to a benefited position, there are two options available: a competitive recruitment, or a direct appointment.
