Overview
It is possible to embed both YouTube, and Microsoft Stream videos into a Knowledge Article. There are pros, and cons to both content sources, the discussion of which is beyond the scope of this article.

Do These
- Consider your audience: internal, external, time-constrained, and future viewers
- Short videos: Respect your viewers time, and try not to waste it
- Ask if you have questions: Please ask the Technical Support Center if you have any questions, or concerns
- Hosting account: All video should be uploaded under a university departmental account to ensure availability of content in the advent of employee trurnover
Avoid These
- Violating Copyright: If you, the University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Alaska Fairbanks, University of Alaska Southeast, or University of Alaska does not own the rights to the content, do not embed the content, period
- Confidential: Content that should not be viewed by anyone/everyone should not be embedded into a knowledge article
- Profanity or obscene content: Any embedded video should be appropriate for all audiences
Get Embed Code for Microsoft Stream Video
Important
Video content hosted by Microsoft Stream is only available to individuals that have an active UA identity. You will see the following message when you click on the share button.
This video will only be viewable by authorized users
In some cases when you're embedding a Microsoft Stream video, after saving and viewing the page the embed video may display a message similar to the following.
While the video will not play in the embedded in the web page if the customer clicks the Open in new window button the video will successfully play in the newly open browser window.
- Go to the Microsoft 365 @ UA Stream service.
- If prompted, sign in with your UA Email address (e.g. uausername@alaska.edu), and password.
- Locate the desired video.
- Click the Share icon.
- Click the Embed button.
- Under Video size drop-down menu select the size 640 x 360.
- Ensure Autoplay is set to Off.
- Click the Responsive slider to enable responsive features.
- Ensure Show info is set to On.
- Click the Copy button to copy the embed code.
Proceed to the Embed Video into Knowledge Article section.
Get Embed Code for YouTube Video
- Go to YouTube.
- Locate the desired video.
- Click the Share icon.
- Click the Embed button.
- In the Embed Video dialog window click the Copy button in the lower right corner.

Embed Video into Knowledge Article
- Open the UAA IT Knowledge Base.
- Locate the desired article to include video in.
- Click Edit Article button.
- Place the cursor in the location desired for the video to be inserted.
- Click the Embed YouTube video button.
- Click in the Place Embed Code Here text field.
- Paste the embed code you copied from either Microsoft Stream, or YouTube.
- Uncheck Show suggested video's at video's end.
- Click Ok.
After you've completed making any further desired changes to your article, save your changes. When ready submit the article for review and publishing.
