Overview
Project types are used by Project Requests and Projects to group projects and requests into categories of similar work. Additionally, types influence the availability of attributes, settings, time types, groups, and project settings.
What materials do I need?
- Internet connectivity
- Web browser
- ESM Project Application Administrator, or ESM Enterprise Administrator role
How do I use this technology?
- In TDWorkManagement, click View Applications.
- Click the name of the desired project application.
- In the project application, click the settings (i.e. sprocket icon) button.
- Click Admin.
- In the left navigation menu, click Types.
- At the top of the page, click + New.
- A New Type window will open.
- Choose a Project Type Category.
- Enter a Name for the Project Type.
- Optionally, add a Description for the Project Type.
- Optionally, enter an Evaluator for projects created using this type.
- Check the Active box to allow new projects to be created for this type.
- Optionally, check the Notify evaluator of new projects or requests? box. If checked, the Evaluator listed for the Project Type will get a notification when new projects are created or project requests are submitted using this Project Type.
- At the top of the page, click Save.
- The window will refresh allowing configuring the various components.
- Click Project Time Types.
Tip
The selected time types are automatically added as a project request is converted to a project. All time types added to a project request before the point of conversion will be preserved.
- In the Type Types list, select the desired type(s) to be added.
- Click Add.
- The page will refresh and display a table with all of the type(s) selected.
- Click Request Time Types.
- In the Time Types list, select the desired type(s) to be added.
- Click Add.
- The page will refresh and display a table with all the type(s) selected.
- Click Expense Accounts.
- In the Expense Accounts list, select the desired account(s) to be added.
- Click Add.
- The page will refresh and display a table with all the account(s) selected.
- Click Groups.
Tip
Associating groups with types allows you to have control over the various project types that are available for individuals who are creating or associating a service with this type.
- If the first option is selected above, this will allow only the selected groups to access this type (in effect creating a "allow list").
- If the second option is selected above, this will allow all individuals to access this type except the selected groups (in effect creating a "deny list"). Note that the allow list/deny list setting applies to the type as a whole, and not to individual groups that are associated with the type.
Individuals with the Can see all types permission will be able to see the type regardless of any groups they may or may not belong to.
- In the Associate Groups list, select the desired group(s) to associate with the type.
- Under the Type Permission section, select if the selected groups should, or should not be able to the type.
- Click Save.
- The page will refresh and display a table with the group(s) selected.
- Click Attributes.

Tip
Various default project options can be set based upon project type.
- Review the available project settings, and adjust options as desired for the project type.
- Click Save.
- Click Project Sections.
Tip
This tab allows for selecting which project sections are are active for the project, and viewable at which point in the request, review, execution phase. It is generally recommended that project sections Visible to Request is set to as few as necessary.
- For each project section determine if it should be active for each of the following phases
- Visible to Request - section is available to the requestor before they submit the project request for review.
- Visible to Review - section is available while the project request is going through the review process
- Visible to Project - section is available in the project
- Click Save.
- Close the project type window.
Need additional help or have issues
For support, requests may be submitted anytime using the appropriate Enterprise Service Management form. Requests generate a Ticket which will be worked in order received and urgency by IT Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
