Overview
The Foxit PDF Editor is UA's recommended alternative to Adobe Acrobat Pro. The software has comparable features to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and is compatible with current macOS and Windows operations systems. The software is available through a centrally managed University of Alaska system license agreement and is available at no cost to university staff, faculty, and students.
This article walks you through installing and activating Foxit PDF Editor on a personal computer or a University computer that is not on the domain.
In this article:
- Active in the UA System
- Students who have registered for at least 1 credit through UAOnline within the past year, or
- Employees with an active job status
- UA email address (UAusername@alaska.edu) and password
- If you forgot your UA username or password, please visit the ME.UAA account recovery website.
- Windows or macOS computer that meets minimum system requirements
- Web browser (i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.)
- Internet connection
How do I use this technology?
Installation
This section will walk you through downloading and installing the Foxit PDF Editor on a personal computer.
- Click on the appropriate installer for your computer below.
- After the download is complete, double-click on the downloaded installer.
- Proceed through the installation process for your device.
- When prompted, accept the User Terms & Conditions.
- Once fully installed, proceed to the Activate Foxit PDF Editor section to activate the app.
This section will walk you through downloading and installing the Foxit PDF Editor on a UAA-issued Windows computer.
- Open Windows Search on the bottom-left of the screen.
- Type in Software Center.
- Open Software Center.
- Click Foxit PDF Editor.
- Click the Install button.
- After it installs, the green button will say Uninstall. This indicates that the app was successfully installed.
- Proceed to the Activate Foxit PDF Editor section to activate the app.
This section will walk you through downloading and installing the Foxit PDF Editor on a UAA-issued Mac computer.
- Open Spotlight Search on the top-right of the screen.
- Type in Software Center.
- Open Software Center.
- Sign in to Software Center with your UA username and password.
- Click Foxit PhantomPDF.
- Click the Install button.
- After it installs, the button will say Uninstall. This indicates that the app was successfully installed.
- Proceed to the Activate Foxit PDF Editor section to activate the app to activate the app.
Note
You can activate up to three devices simultaneously. If you activate a fourth device, the first one you activated will be deactivated automatically.
Once Foxit PDF Editor is installed, you need to activate it. This section will walk you through activating Foxit PDF Editor on any operatins.
- Open Foxit PDF Editor.
- Click the Signin button on the bottom-left of the window.

- Click the SSO Login text.

- Type in your UA email address.
- Click the Login button.

- Enter your UA email address at the Office 365 Authentication Screen.
- Click the Next button.

- Type in your UA password.
- Click the Sign In button.

- Process the Duo MFA prompt.
- If prompted, indicate if the device is yours or not.

- Click the Continue button to trust alaska.edu.

- Click the Yes button to stay signed in.
- If the login window goes blank, close it.

- Click the Sign In button again.

- Click the University of Alaska Organization Service button.

- You will get a message that Foxit PDF Editor will need to restart to apply the settings. Click the OK button and Foxit PDF Editor will then restart.

- Once restarted, you will get a notification that Foxit PDF Editor has successfully registered your formal license key.

- Congratulations, your Foxit PDF Editor is now activated and ready to use.
