Stop Job or System Termination?

Tags NEA2TRM

Question: What is a stop job and when is it appropriate to use?

Answer: A stop job is a job form used to end one assignment, but not fully terminate the employee within the system. A stop job should be used with the intention that the employee will continue employment with the university in a current assignment or in the future. When a stop job is submitted, the assignment listed on the job form will be terminated but the employee will remain active in PEAEMPL (and in other active assignments).

Question: What is a system termination in termination workflow (NEA2TRM) and when is it appropriate to use?

Answer: A system termination is the process by which an employee is terminated from all active assignments in Banner, and their status in PEAEMPL is moved from “Active” to “Terminated”. This process is run through a termination workflow in Banner, and is initiated by entering the employee’s information in a screen known as NEA2TRM. Most notably, the termination workflow process ends the employee’s benefits, deductions and direct deposit. It also shuts off any security accesses the employee may have. As a result, this process should only be used for specific situations.

There are three instances when a system termination is appropriate:

  1. The employee has resigned and does not intend to continue working for the university in any capacity.
  2. The employer delivers a notice of termination to the employee.
  3. The employee is moving from a regular, benefited position to a non-benefited position.
-Benefitted Positions: CR, EX, F9, FN, FR, NR, XR
-Non-Benefited Positions: CT, FT, FW, GN, GT, NT, NX, SN, ST, XT, XX

**PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT A STOP JOB FOR SYSTEM TERMINATIONS**

Refer to How to Enter Terminations and Termination Codes for more information on entering terminations in NEA2TRM.

Note: System termination, termination workflow, and NEA2TRM all refer to the same process.
