Body
Overview
Students, staff, and faculty can easily print your file(s) by installing MobilePrint printer objects on your macOS or Windows computer. This allows you to leverage your computer's native printing capability. Once you have sent your file to print, you may pay for and release your print job using either the online Print Center or one of the Print Release Stations around campus. You may pick up your print file at any of the printing devices supported by the Managed Print Service.
Note
This is the only option available to the general public and individuals affiliated with Alaska Pacific University. Additionally, you will only be able to print to the Consortium Library's general use computer areas (e.g. 1st and 2nd floor by the pendulum).
How do I use this technology?
Requirements
For printing with your native Mac or Windows operating system, be sure to install the appropriate printer package for the location you wish to print to.
Things To Know
- For additional information on printing, including a list of available locations, please refer to our Managed Print documentation.
- Your file will be available to print for up to 2 hours.
- When using the online Print Center under the Payment method section, you will see My Funds in bold text. The value associated with My Funds is the total of all the payment sources available to you. Below My Funds is the list of payment sources that have a balance, either positive or negative, for your account. Any payment source with a balance of zero ($0.00) will not be displayed. Note: individuals may have one or more of these payment sources depending upon their campus affiliation and roles within the university. The following accounts types are currently supported:
- UAA Printing Allocation
- UAA Wolfbucks
- UAS Printing Allocation
- UAS Whalebucks
- UAF Bear Bucks
- Physical Print Release Stations currently only support payment sources affiliated with the campus they are located at (e.g. UAA physical Print Release Stations only supports the UAA Printing Allocation and Wolfbucks).
- Printing fees will be deducted from your account once you have released your print job from either the online Print Center or a physical Print Release Station.
Submit Print Files
You can easily print files from your Mac or Windows laptop or desktop computer. Follow the directions below for configuring your computer for use with UAA’s MobilePrint service.
Tip
When submitting print jobs via this option, the output options (e.g. black & white/color, etc.) are determined at time of submission based upon which printer destination was selected. You will be unable to modify any print options via the
UAA Print Center.
First Steps
If you elect to use this option, the first time you'll need to download a custom installer that will setup a black & white, and/or color printer on your computer. After you've completed this once, you can skip this step and proceed to the Print Your File section below.
- Open a web browser and go to the MobilePrint support page.
- Select and download the appropriate printer package based on the type of operating system you are using and the location you want to print to. Available options are:
- Find the downloaded file and decompress it.
- Double-click the decompressed file to run the Managed Print installer.
- macOS:
- When the MobilePrint installer opens click Continue.
- Read the Important Information then click Continue.
- At the Software License Agreement click Continue.
- At the Custom Install screen, select the desired location(s) that you want to configure printer settings for then click Continue.
Note: by default, only the Anchorage location is selected.
- Click Install.
- When prompted, enter your local username and password then click Install Software.
- After the installer completes, click Close.
- Windows:
- A User Account Control dialog box will appear. Click Yes to allow the installer to make changes.
- A Pharos Systems installer window will open. Click Install to begin the installation of the necessary software and creation of the appropriate printer object.
- After the installer completes, click Finish.
Print Your File
- After you have installed the desired printer from above, access your document and then use your operating system’s standard printing function (e.g. File -> Print).
- You should now see a new printer with a name in the format of uaa-<location>_<printer type> (e.g. uaa-anc_bw, uaa-anc_color, uaa-er_bw, uaa-krc_bw, uaa-msc_bw, etc.) in your list of printers. Select the desired campus printer and click Print.
- You will get a dialog box asking you to enter your UA Username for your print job. It is important to enter your username correctly or you will not be able to release your print job at the printer.
Note: When using the printer queues for the Consortium Library, you will be prompted for both a Username and a Password. This is to ensure that only you will be able to release your print job at the Print Release Stations located in that area.
- Your file(s) are now waiting to be printed from any managed print release station on campus or online via the Print Center. Your files will remain queued in the system for up to 120 minutes. The Release Print Jobs KB article goes into additional details on release your submitted print job(s).
