Skype for Business Online to be Retired

Overview

Microsoft announced on in July 2019 that Skype for Business Online will be retiring on July 31, 2021. The Skype for Business Online service and functionality has been replaced by Microsoft Teams. Individuals who have already made the move from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams have reported improved collaboration, and has also provided an opportunity to rethink the way work gets done within their groups.

We strongly encourage anyone who may still be using Skype for Business Online with their UA identity to switch over to Microsoft Teams. If you are not familiar with Microsoft Teams, please review our Get Started with Microsoft Teams KB article.

Over the next couple of months IT Services will begin the final process of deprecating the use and support of Skype for Business Online within the University of Alaska (UA) system.
