Overview
The Microsoft 365 (M365) Apps for Enterprise (aka Office 365 ProPlus) allows current University of Alaska (UA) students, staff, and faculty to download the latest versions of Microsoft Office software at no cost. All available applications (dependent upon device) may be installed on up to 5 computers, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones. The desktop applications are available for download using your UA email address (e.g. UaUsername@alaska.edu) and password on the Microsoft 365 site (Windows and macOS only).

Who can get it
Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise is available at no cost for all current UA students, staff, and faculty.
After leaving the university, you will no longer have access to the desktop applications associated with your university identity. For more information, please visit the Can I continue using the applications after graduation, or leave the university? section of the FAQ.
How to get it
Desktop Applications
For desktop applications on Windows, and macOS follow the directions below. It is strongly recommended that you download the software on the device you want to install it on, and in a time and place where you have sufficient connectivity to the Internet so that you can download a multi-gigabyte file. Please note you will only be able to download software that is compatible with the operating system you are using at the time you attempt the download. If you desire to install software for a different operating system you will need to sign in from that device and download the applicable installer.

Before you proceed with the instructions, please review them carefully to ensure you do not skip any steps and meet all the necessary requirements.
Mobile Applications
To find available applications for your mobile device, you can search for the name of the application in the Apple App Store, or Google Play Store. Click on one of the links below to go directly to the application download location:
Web Browser Applications
You can access the online web browser versions of Microsoft 365 at portal.office.com. However, please be aware that this version does not include all the features found in the desktop versions. For example, Microsoft has published a table comparing feature differences in Word.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is Microsoft Copilot available with my account?
Yes and no. Copilot Chat is available for all active UA students and employees, and can only be accessed via a web browser by logging into your UA Microsoft account. However, the built-in Copilot integration for online, desktop, and mobile M365 apps, requires a separate license that we do not provide for free. This separate license is called Microsoft 365 Copilot for Enterprise, which differs from our current Microsoft 365 for Enterprise license.
To purchase the Microsoft 365 Copilot for Enterprise license:
- For UA employees - Submit a Software Request ticket. As of October 2024, the cost of this license through us is $30/month.
- For UA students - Departments must sponsor and purchase this license on the student's behalf using Software Request ticket. At this time, students cannot purchase a Microsoft 365 Copilot for Enterprise license on their own using their UA account.
- Alternatively, if students desire the Copilot app integration, then the student must purchase a personal license out of pocket through a personal, non-UA affiliated Microsoft account here: microsoft.com/microsoft-365/copilot. Students will be solely responsible for the subscription costs, as we do not provide any discounts. Additionally, UA Microsoft accounts and personal, non-UA-affiliated Microsoft accounts cannot be merged, nor can their licenses be combined.
Can I continue using the applications after graduation, or leave the university?
After leaving the university, you will no longer have access to the Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise desktop applications associated with your university identity. However, you may continue to use the mobile and web browser applications after being granted an Alum Email Extension.
You will receive a notification that your desktop subscription has ended, and you can choose to continue the subscription on your own. However, you will be solely responsible for the subscription costs, as we do not provide any discounts. Additionally, individuals will no longer be able to access their university-affiliated OneDrive for Business storage.
Do I need a license key for Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise applications?
No. Applications are activated per device during the setup process for software downloaded from portal.office.com, as well as the Apple App Store, and Google Play store, when you sign in to the application using your UA Username (e.g. Uausername@alaska.edu) and password.
How many devices can I install Microsoft Apps for Enterprise on?
You can install Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise on the following:
- Desktop/Laptop Computers (macOS/Windows): 5
- Tablets: 5
- Smartphones: 5
You can manage, check, and revoke device licenses through myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list.

Support Requests are worked by Priority based on the Impact and Urgency of need as well as the order they are received by the IT Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
