Overview
The Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise (aka Office 365 ProPlus) allows current University of Alaska students, staff, and faculty to download the latest versions of Microsoft Office software at no cost.
In this article:
What materials do I need?
- Internet connection
- Web browser (i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, etc)
- Windows or macOS computer that meets minimum system requirements
- Active UA account (current student/employee)
- UA email address
- Working UA password
How do I use this technology?
Installation
Note
The following steps and screenshots were written for Windows, but it should be similar on macOS.
- Open a web browser.
- In your address bar, type in https://portal.office.com
- On the Microsoft Sign In page, type in your UA email address.

- Click the Next button.
- On the Enter password page, enter your UA password.
- Click the Sign In button.
- A Stay signed in? prompt may appear. You can click the Yes or No button.
- On the top-right of the page, click the Install Office button.
- Click Office 365 apps in the sub-menu.

- Your browser will begin to download the installation wizard.
- Once fully downloaded, follow the prompt on the web page to begin the installation.
Note
- The prompt will depend on what web browser and computer you're using. For example, if you're on a Windows computer using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, you will see this:
- If you cannot find the file, navigate to your Downloads folder.

- Wait for the installer to finish.
- After installation, you will see this success message. Click the Close button to continue.

Activation
- Open any Office app. In this example, Word will be opened.
- Upon launch, a window will come up asking you to Sign in. Click the Sign in button.

- On the Activate Office window, type in your UA email address.

- Click the Next button.
- On the Enter password page, enter your UA password.
- Click the Sign In button.
Important
For individuals running Windows, you must complete the following steps. Otherwise, individuals running macOS, iOS, or iPadOS go to step 7.
- Uncheck Allow my organization to manage my device.
- Click No, sign in to this app only to continue.

- To verify if your app is activated, on the bottom-left, click Account.
- Under Product Information on the right, you should see Belongs to: is set to your UA email.

- Other apps should not require you to sign in again, but if it does, go back to step 2.
