Connect to UAA WiFi - MatSu on ChromeOS

Overview

This article contains instructions on how to connect to the "UAA WiFi -MatSu" network for individuals on a Chromebook or a computer running ChromeOS.

What materials do I need?

  • Active in the University of Alaska (UA) System

    • Students who have registered for at least 1 credit through UAOnline within the past year,
    • Employees with an active job status, or
    • Active department-sponsored UA account
  • UA username and current UA password.
    • If you forgot your UA username or password, please visit the me.uaa.alaska.edu account recovery website.
  • WiFi-capable Chromebook or ChromeOS computer

How do I use this technology?

Connect to UAA WiFi -MatSu

  1. Click on the WiFi icon in the bottom right of the screen.

  2. Click on the WiFi network settings button.

  3. Click on UAA WiFi -MatSu.
    Warning
    The "MSC - Guest" WiFi network is intended for visitors and should not be used by UAA students, faculty, or staff.
    This network is slower, has limited access, and requires daily re-authentication, which can interrupt your connection.
    For the best experience, including faster speeds and persistent connectivity without daily logins, always connect to "UAA WiFi - MatSu" using your UA credentials.

  4. In the Join Wi-Fi network window, set the following settings:
    • EAP method: choose PEAP
    • EAP Phase 2 authentication: choose MSCHAPv2
    • Server CA certificate: choose Do not check
    • Identity: Enter your UA username (do not include @alaska.edu, and do not use your student ID number)

  5. Click the Connect button on the bottom right.
  6. You should now be connected to UAA WiFi - MatSu.
  7. To test if you're connected, open any web page, such as Mat-Su College or Google.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to connect, follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Ensure the settings above match.
  2. Ensure you entered your UA username (do not include @alaska.edu after. Do not use your student ID number).
  3. Ensure you entered your current UA password correctly.
  4. All requirements met in What materials do I need?
  5. Reboot your device, then go back to step 1.
  6. Forget the MSC - Guest SSID.
  7. Forget the UAA WiFi -MatSu SSID, then go back to step 1.
  8. Check our UAA ITS Status Page for possible network outages.
