Assistive Technology

Magnification, Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text are just a few of the options available to Disability Support Services (DSS) students, to access alternate format materials.  To learn about customizing personal computers to improve accessibility, contact the DSS Adaptive Computing Specialist at (907) 786-4538 to schedule an individual consultation.

Some of the items available to DSS students on a limited basis by semester include:

  • Audio format listening devices
  • Digital Recorders
  • LiveScribe Digital Pens
  • Many other assistive softwares and devices

You may also install the Read&Write software toolbar that helps learners create and access content with the literacy support features they need to successfully understand materials, engage and express themselves. Great for all subjects across the curriculum, Read&Write offers accessibility support with daily tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words, researching assignments, proofing written work and more! For additional information read the Read&Write article in the knowledge base.
