Get Started with Microsoft Project for the Web

Overview

Project for the Web is Microsoft's most recent offering for cloud-based work and project management. Project for the web provides simple, powerful work management capabilities and can be used by project managers and team members to plan and manage work of any size.

Project for the web is part of the Microsoft Project product family, and is built on the Microsoft Power Platform and includes the following:

  • Project Home
  • Roadmap
  • Project Management

 

Important
Microsoft Project for the Web is available on as an optional software license that departments may purchase for their employees (staff/faculty), and/or students as they deem appropriate. Departments are responsible for the annual per user license costs. Deparments interested in associated license costs should submit a ticket requesting to receive a quote for an Office 365 optional license. Who Can Use Project for the Web

Launch Project for the Web

Project for the Web is, as the name suggests, a web based project management software.

  1. Open a web browser and go to Office 365.
  2. Once there, login with your UA Username (e.g. UaUsername@alaska.edu) and password.
  3. In the upper left corner click the App Launcher.

  4. Click All apps.

  5. Scroll down and click Project.

  6. The Project landing page will be displayed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I give individuals external to the University of Alaska access to my Project for web projects and tasks?

Not right now. Microsoft regularly assess Project for the web customer feedback and usage data to make sure they're delivering features that meet customer needs. If this is a feature that is important to you make sure your voice is heard by posting on Project UserVoice.

 

When should I use Planner, and when should I use Project for the web?

Planner will remain the right starting point for individuals and teams collaborating on tasks. Project for the web offers the perfect “grow-up” tool for individuals and teams using Planner who find they need things like a grid view, dependencies, scheduling, and a timeline (Gantt) view.
