Overview
The Enterprise Service Management (ESM) system groups assets by product models which are associated with product types.

How do I use this technology?
Review Existing Product Models
- Open a web browser.
- Navigate to the UA ESM website.
- Login to UA ESM with your UA Email address and password.
- Click the Assets/CIs tab.
- On the left side, click Product Models.
- Search for desired product model.
- In the Search field enter text representing the desired model.
- Optionally, in the Manufacturer field enter the name of the manufacture.
- From the search results, select the manufacturer.
- Click Search.
- Review the product models retrieved.
Add Product Model
Important
Before creating a new product model verify that an existing one does not yet exist for the specific manufacturer.
- Open a web browser.
- Navigate to the UA ESM website.
- Login to UA ESM with your UA Email address and password.
- Click the Assets/CIs tab.
- On the left side, click Product Models.
- Click + New button.
- Click Product Model.
- The New Product Model window will open.
- In the Name field, enter the manufacturer's product name.
- In the Product Type field type text representing the type of you're looking for.
- Select the appropriate product type.
- In the Manufacturer field type text representing the manufacturer you're looking for.
- Select the appropriate manufacturer from the list.
- In the Part Number field if the product model has unique number from the manufacturer enter it.
- For most computer models (e.g. Dell Optiplex 7780, Apple Mac mini, etc.) this field will be left blank as the manufacturer has different part numbers depending upon the specific configurations the computer was ordered with (e.g. RAM, Hard Drive capacity, etc.) Use the Model Identifier and/or Model Number field instead.
- In the Description field, if desired enter text describing the product model.
- In the Model Identifier field, if available enter the manufacturer's assigned identifier (e.g. macmini9,1)
- In the Model Number field, if available enter the manufacturer's assigned identifier (e.g. A2348, W26C, etc.)
- Verify the Active checkbox is selected.
- The entry should look similar to the following example.
- Click Save.
Disable Product Model
Warning
In general product models should not be made inactive. Typically the only reason to inactive a product model is when a duplicate model is mistakenly created.
- Open a web browser.
- Navigate to the UA ESM website.
- Login to UA ESM with your UA Email address and password.
- Click the Assets/CIs tab.
- On the left side, click Product Models.
- Locate the desired product model, either by searching, or clicking through the model list.
- Click the duplicate Product Model.
- A new window will open with the Product Model details.
- Verify if any assets are associated with this product model.
- If so, clicking the assets number will open a new browser window displaying all linked assets. These should all be reassociated with the correct product model before continuing.
- If no assets are linked, continue to the next step.
- Click the Edit button.
- Uncheck the Active checkbox.
- Click Save.
