Overview
Use GlobalProtect to connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Members of the university community can use the VPN service at no cost to securely connect University resources remotely.
In this article:
What materials do I need?
- Windows or Mac computer
- Stable Internet connection
- Web browser
- UA username
- Current UA password
- Duo MFA device
- GlobalProtect VPN client
How do I use this technology?
- Open the GlobalProtect application.
- In Windows, it may be hidden in your System Tray on the bottom-right of the screen. If it is not there, open it from Windows Search.
- In Mac, it will be located on the right of the top menu bar. If it is not there, open it from Spotlight Search.
- In the text field, type in uaa.vpn.alaska.edu for the portal address.
- Click the Connect button.
- Your system's default web browser will open this page.
- Sign in to your UA account using your UA username and current UA password.

- Your browser may ask you to open GlobalProtect. If that is the case, click the Open GlobalProtect button.
- Your browser will redirect you to this Authentication Complete page. This indicates that you have been signed-in successfully to GlobalProtect.
- Check the GlobalProtect window.
- If GlobalProtect does not connect after 5 seconds click the blue click here on the Authentication Complete page
- The GlobalProtect window will now say Connected.

For support, requests may be submitted anytime using the appropriate Support for Remote Connectivity VPN form. Requests generate a Ticket which will be worked in order received and urgency by UAA Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
