Overview

Use GlobalProtect to connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Active members of the university community can use the VPN service at no cost to securely connect University resources remotely.

What materials do I need?

  • Active in the UA System
    • Students who have registered for at least 1 credit through UAOnline within the past year,
    • Employees with an active job status, or
    • Department-approved Affiliate or Sponsor status
  • UA username and current UA password.
    • If you forgot your UA username or password, please visit the ME.UAA account recovery website.
  • Duo MFA device
  • Internet access
  • Stable Internet connection
  • Web browser (i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, etc)
  • GlobalProtect VPN client installed on a

How do I use this technology?

  1. Open the GlobalProtect application.
    • On Windows, it may be hidden in your System Tray on the bottom-right of the screen. If it is not there, open it from Windows Search.

    • On Mac, it will be located on the right of the top menu bar. If it is not there, search for it from Spotlight Search.

  2. In the Portal text field, type in uaa.vpn.alaska.edu for the portal address.

  3. Click the Connect button.
  4. Your system's default web browser will open this page.
  5. Sign in to your UA account using your UA username and current UA password.
     
    Note
    If you get a Stale Request error or Script error when attempting to sign-in, please visit the following article: GlobalProtect Troubleshooting.

  6. Your browser may ask you to open GlobalProtect. If that is the case, click the Open GlobalProtect button.

  7. Your browser will redirect you to this Authentication Complete page. This indicates that you have been signed in successfully to GlobalProtect.

  8. Check the GlobalProtect window.
  9. The GlobalProtect window will now say Connected.

  10. If GlobalProtect does not connect after 5 seconds, click the blue click here on the Authentication Complete page

  11. Check the GlobalProtect window again, and the GlobalProtect window will now say Connected. If it's not connecting, visit the following article to troubleshoot common issues: GlobalProtect Troubleshooting
