Virtual Desktop (VDI)

Warning
When using a Virtual Computer do not save data to the virtual computer! Any data saved to the hard drive will be deleted when your session is closed.  Save all work to an external location, for option see our KB article where to save files.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) allows you to access a virtual computer on your own device that may have access to software and other resources that your own device does not. Methods available for access include the web, managed zero client (minimal computer hardware), or software client for almost every platform. VDI enables access from on and off-campus to specific software and on-premise networks that may be required for employee duties or students to complete Course work.

There are two base services. The first base service offers all employees the ability to login and uses a standard desktop with the standard UAA desktop software for a more affordable price than managing workstations. Departments can request custom applications be available for their department or specific roles. The second base service, VDI Labs, offers students access to standard and specialized software for completing course work. VDI Labs allows both a physical presence with zero clients and web-based access.

For example, the College of Engineering (CoEng) provides a VDI environment to students enrolled in at least one College of Engineering (CoEng) or Community Technical College (CTC) Building Technologies Course. The virtual computer will contain all software installed in College of Engineering labs.
