Change My Account Password

Overview

In this article, the reader will learn to change their password for UA accounts using the Me.UAA password management system located at http://me.uaa.alaska.edu. This article applies to all UAA student, staff and faculty users.

Users will need to know their UA user name or 8–digit UA ID number and be able to satisfactorily prove their identity by answering several questions based on enrollment and employee records. If you are locked out of this system or otherwise unable to proceed during the process, please contact the Service Center for assistance.

What materials do I need?

  • Internet access
  • A web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple’s Safari or Google Chrome
  • UA domain user name or 8-digit UA ID
  • Must meet password complexity requirements.

How do I use this technology?

Setting your Password for the first time:

  1. To set a new password, you will first need to access the web page http://me.uaa.alaska.edu . Enter this address directly into your address bar, or click “Need your password reset?” on the student email page or  “Forgot Password?” on the Blackboard log in page.
  2. The Me.UAA web site provides three options for access to change your password. New users will want to choose Option 2, “Activate My Account/Reset My Password”.
  3. Enter either your UA username or 8-digit ID number obtained from enrollment services and press the “Manage my identity” button.
  4. To verify your identity, the site will ask you several verification questions based on your enrollment and employee records. Once you have completed these questions, press “Confirm” in order to proceed.
  5. The first time you access Me.UAA you will be asked to set a security policy governing use of the password change system. You will be asked to pick one of the following options:
    - Strong: Pick this to allow access using your user name and password.
    - Stronger: This option will require you to answer a security question in addition to a user name and password.
    - Strongest: This option will disable Options 2 & 3, and is only recommended if you are a victim of identity theft.
  6. Press “Save Settings”
  7. On the “Welcome” page you will see listed your UA ID number, UA user name, a listing of systems you have been granted access to and, on the right-hand side, a box titled “Set / Change your password here”. If you do not see this box, Call IT Services for assistance.
  8. In order to set a new password on the Me.UAA “Welcome” page:
    - Select your UA user name from the “Username” pull down menu
    - Enter a new password into both the “New Password” and “Confirm Password” fields. Your password must be a minimum of 8 charactersm and contain at least 1 upper case letter, 1 lower case letter and 1 number.
    - Press “Set Password”
  9. You have now set a new password, press “Sign out” to leave the password management system.

Changing your password:

  1. Open your preferred web browser.
  2. Navigate to the web page http://me.uaa.alaska.edu . Either enter this address directly into your address bar, or click “Need your password reset?” on the student email page or “Forgot Password?” on the Blackboard log in page.
  3. Select “Option 1: Manage My Identity”.
  4. Enter your UA user name and password.
  5. Press “Manage my Identity”
  6. On the “Welcome” page you will see listed your UA ID number, UA user name, a listing of systems you have been granted access to and, on the right-hand side, a box titled “Set / Change your password here”. If you do not see this box, Call IT Services for assistance.
  7. In order to set a new password on the Me.UAA “Welcome” page:
    - Select your UA user name from the “Username” pull down menu

Password complexity Requirements:

  • Eight (8) characters or longer.
  • One uppercase, one lowercase and one numeric character.
  • No apostrophe, quote or plus character (‘, ”, or +)
  • No words commonly found in the dictionary or personal information like your name, ssn, date of birth etc.
  • Different than your last five passwords.
  • Should be changed once a year.

Is there any additional information I should know about?

The Me.UAA system is not used to set the PIN for UAOnline, that system is managed independently.
Please note that the verification questions used in the Me.UAA system are drawn directly from enrollment and employment records, if you believe them to be in error, please contact the appropriate department, as IT Services cannot change this information.
