Unsubscribe From a Mailing List

Overview

If you no longer wish to receive email from a non-dynamic Mailing list there are two common ways that you can unsubscribe from a Mailman mailing list.

How do I use this technology?

There are two methods to unsubscribe yourself from a Mailman mailing list. You only need to use one of these methods. After following one of the options below, you will be sent a confirmation message to the email address provided and must follow the instructions given in the email to complete the unsubscription process. This is to stop people from unsubscribing you without your permission. Additionally, depending on the nature of the list, a moderator may need to approve your unsubscription.

Unsubscribe via Web Interface

  1. Open a web browser and go to the list information page for the list you want to leave. It will be something like the following:

    https://lists.uaa.alaska.edu/mailman/listinfo/<listname>

    Replace <listname> with the name of the list you'd like to unsubscribe from.
     
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page looking for the section labeled <Listname> Subscribers.
  3. In the text field next to the Unsubscribe or edit options enter the email address that you want to unsubscribe from the list.

  4. Click the Unsubscribe or edit options button.
  5. The <Listname> member options for user[...] page will appear.

  6. In the Unsubscribe section, click the Unsubscribe button.

 

Unsubscribe via Email

  1. Open an email program that can access the email account you want to unsubscribe.
  2. Send a mail message to the list's unsubscribe address, which will be similar to the example below:

    <listname>-leave@lists.uaa.alaska.edu
     
    Note
    The subject, and body of this message will be ignored by Mailman, so it doesn't matter what you put there.
