UAA Dynamic Mailing Lists

Overview

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) has several Mailing Lists whose membership are updated daily based upon criteria defined by the list's owner. All members of these dynamic mailing lists are subscribed with a person's UA Email address (e.g. UaUsername@alaska.edu) so we only send email directly to university provided addresses. These dynamic lists are designed to ensure that important messages from UAA can be quickly and effectively distributed to the appropriate target audiences.

Can I subscribe to a UAA Dynamic Mailing List?

The traditional method of subscribing to a mailing list will not work as expected with dynamic lists. It is technically possible, depending upon preferences set by the list owner, for an individual to submit a subscribe request for themselves to a dynamic list. However, the scheduled processes which maintains all dynamic lists membership will automatically remove individuals the next morning if they do not meet the defined criteria specified for the list by the list owner.

List owners may submit a request to include individuals that do not meet the criteria for dynamic membership to be added to a static membership list. The static membership list is merged with the dynamically generated list when the membership is updated daily. Individuals on a static membership list associated with dynamic lists may be removed, either by the individual, or the list owner, by submitting a removal request to IT Services.

Can I unsubscribe from a UAA Dynamic Mailing List?

Because of the business need to reach the university community, it is not possible to unsubscribe from dynamic lists. If an individual attempts to do so, they will re-subscribed during the next daily update process.

If an individual is receiving messages from UAA dynamic mailing lists to their non-university email address (e.g. someone@outlook.com), this is because they have set a preferred email address within UA Online to this non-university email address. Accordingly the UA email system has set a mail-forward on the account to deliver all email sent to their UA email address to this non-university email address. Individuals may remove their preferred email setting at anytime via UA Online. This will cause all email sent to the person's UA Email address to be delivered to their UA Email account, and no longer be forward to their personal, non-university, email address.
