The following steps are written on Windows 11. However, if you are using Windows 10, the steps are identical, but with a slightly different user interface style.
How do I use this technology?
Method 1: On the Desktop
If you are logged into your computer:
- Click the Windows logo at the bottom of your screen to open the Start Menu.

- On your keyboard, type in PC name, and Windows will start searching in the Start Menu's top search bar.
- Click View your PC Name from the search results.

- The Windows Settings window opens. In the middle of the window, you should see your Device name.
Note
The example image below has the Device Names censored for security purposes. However, Device Names can vary, for example:
- UAA-owned computers should have a Device Name that starts with ANC- (e.g., ANC-ABC1234)
- Personal computers not owned by UAA typically have a Device Name that can start with, but is not limited to, DESKTOP-, LAPTOP-, device manufacturer name, or a custom set by the user.

Method 2: Login Screen (for UAA-owned computers)
If you are on a UAA-owned computer on the login screen:
- In the User name field, type in a period, then backslash, like so: .\
- Below the Password box, find the line Sign in to:, and the Device Name will be displayed.

Is there any additional information I should know about?
Typically, some Device Names will contain your device manufacturer's Serial Number. For example, on UAA-owned Dell computers, after the ANC- in the Device Name, it will have Dell's 7-character long Service Tag identifier.
