Canva

Overview

Canva is available for current University of Alaska (UA) students, staff, and faculty. Canva's layouts make it easy to design professional-looking graphics, posters, social media posts, and more.

Important
Signing up for Canva with your UA account will automatically assign you their Free tier license. To obtain a Pro license:
  • As a UA employee (including UA student employees), you must coordinate with your department and submit a Software Request ticket.
  • As a UA student, you must purchase the license out-of-pocket. We do not offer any Canva licenses for free or at a discount.

Is there any additional information I should know about?

  • UAA IT Services does not administer, manage, or have access to any Canva accounts, teams, files, or any other administrative-level tools.
  • Canva teams are user-generated and may not have a Canva for Education license tied to that team.
  • As of July 2023, the Canva for Education program, which previously provided Pro tier licenses to UA accounts, is no longer available.
  • The Canva platform presents several accessibility barriers and should not be considered for use by university staff if accessible design software is required. When creating content in Canva, ensure to follow accessibility guidelines, including adding alt-text to images, checking for color contrast, and using legible text. Please reference the Design for Accessibility | Canva Webinar for additional information on making Canva accessible.
