Get Started with Power Automate

Overview

Power Automate (formerly known as Microsoft Flow) is a cloud-based service that makes it simple to build workflows that automate time-consuming tasks, as well as develop processes that improve efficiencies. Manage your email, send or receive notifications, synchronize files, collect data, and more. Power Automate offers a wide variety of templates to kick-start the creation of your first automated workflow. Try one out, and when you're ready modify it to fit your needs, or create your own from scratch.

How do I access Power Automate?

Power Automate is accessible via most web browsers.

  1. Open a web browser and go to Microsoft 365.
  2. Once there, login with your UA email address (e.g. Uausername@alaska.edu) and password.
  3. After you have successfully signed in, in the upper left corner click the App launcher, click All apps, then click Power Automate.

Additionally, you can access Power Automate on Mobile Devices by downloading the appropriate app for your device.

What are connectors?

Connectors provide ways for individuals to connect their accounts and leverage a set of pre-built actions and triggers to build their workflows. To learn more about , and see a complete list of available connectors visit the Power Automate Connectors page.

How many services does Power Automate support?

Power Automate currently supports connectors for 240 different services. Ranging from Excel, Excel Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Exchange, Gmail, and many others. Can I share workflows I create?

Yes, you can share workflows in one of by doing either of the following:

  • You can add other individuals, or groups, at the University of Alaska as owners on your workflows, so they can also edit and manage the flow.
  • For workflows that can be run manually, you can also gran other individuals, or groups, at the University of Alaska permission to just run the flow.

What web browsers are support?

Microsoft recommends that you use the most up-to-date browser that's compatible with your operating system. The following browsers are supported:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Internet Explorer 11
  • Safari
  • Chrome
  • Firefox

What are templates?

Templates are pre-built workflows for popular and common scenarios. Using a template only requires you to have access to the services in the template and to fill out any required settings.

Can I connect a REST API to my flow?

Yes, you can connect any REST API that uses JSON and supports at least one of authentication methods by creating a custom connector.

Can workflows be turned off or disabled?

Yes, each flow has an on/off switch that enables you to stop the flow from processing requests.

For support, requests may be submitted anytime by Requesting Support for the Microsoft 365 @ UA service. Support Requests are worked by Priority based on the Impact and Urgency of need as well as the order they are received by the IT Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
