Map a UAA Shared Drive on macOS

Overview

Individuals can connect to a shared drive associated with their department or their UA account.

 

What materials do I need?

  • macOS computer (i.e. MacBook Air/Pro, iMac, etc.)
  • Permissions to access the shared drive(s)
  • Shared drive address
  • Connection to the on-campus UAA network

 

How do I use this technology?

  1. Confirm the device is connected to the on-campus UAA network or through UAA GlobalProtect VPN if off-campus.
  2. Navigate to Finder.

  3. At the very top of the screen, click Go.
    "Go" menu at the top of the screen
     
  4. Click Connect to Server...
    "Connect to server..." button in the "Go" menu
     
  5. Type the path of the shared drive or copy and paste the path in the first text field.
    • UAA network shared drives typically start with smb://anc-filesrv01.ua.ad.alaska.edu/share-drive-name$
    • For example: smb://anc-filesrv01.ua.ad.alaska.edu/GAC$/Pre-Award/00. Preaward_Shared/PRAS/ISERExample of the "Connect to Server" window
       
  6. Click Connect.
  7. The system will ask for your UA credentials.
  8. For the Name field, enter \UA first then your UA username.
    • For example: UA\myUsername
  9. For the Password, enter your UA password.
  10. Click Connect.
  11. The shared drive should now appear under Locations on the left-hand side of Finder.

 

Need additional help or have issues

For support, requests may be submitted anytime using the appropriate Enterprise File Storage form. Requests generate a Ticket which will be worked in order received and urgency by IT Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
