Overview
Changing a UA username can only be done through a legal name change. This process begins with the user completing a name change form or re-applying for the university with a new legal name.
Important
A person's username is generated automatically based on information in Banner. Usernames cannot be manually modified or custom-created.
What materials do I need?
- Internet connectivity
- Web browser
- Your UA username and current password
How do I use this technology?
Warning
Updating your UA username may cause temporary issues accessing your account. It may take up to 2 days for the primary services (UA AD, Google Workspace @ UA, Learning Management System) to be automatically updated with your new username. Therefore, you should make the change either:
- Before or after the semester (recommended)
- Or on a Friday if you don't plan on using your account over the weekend
You may continue using your existing/old UA username to log in until it has been updated. After some time, your newly generated username and existing password should work.
- Log in to UAOnline with your UA username and current password.
- Click the Personal Information tab on top of the page.
- Click on the UA ID Number and Username link.
- Your current name, UA ID, and UA Username will be displayed. If the name represents a name change, you will see a button that will allow you to generate a new username.

If you do not see a
Submit button to request the generation of a new UA Username, it could mean that a request to update your legal name has either not been submitted, or is still being reviewed/processed. Please reach out to the local Registrar's Office for additional assistance

- Click Submit button to generate a new UA Username.
- Write-down your newly generated username.
- In the upper right of the page, click the LOG OUT text.
Is there any additional information I should know about?
Some applications may require you to sign in again with your new UA username, such as Microsoft 365 apps, Google Workspace for Education apps, etc.
Need additional help or have issues
For support, requests may be submitted anytime using the appropriate Support for UA Account form. Requests generate a Ticket which will be worked in order received and urgency by UAA Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
