Update My UA Username

Overview

Changing a UA username can only be done through a legal name change. This process begins with the user submiting a name change form or re-applying for the university with a new legal name.

Important
  • A person's username is generated automatically based on information in Banner. Usernames cannot be manually modified or custom-created.
  • Currently, users cannot update their UA Username through self-service. Users need to submit a request through the UA Office of Information Technology (OIT).

Warning

Updating your UA username may cause temporary issues accessing your account. It may take up to 2 days for the primary services (UA AD, Google Workspace @ UA, Learning Management System) to be automatically updated with your new username. Therefore, you should make the request either:

  • Before or after the semester (recommended)
  • Or on a Friday if you don't plan on using your account over the weekend

You may continue using your existing/old UA username to log in until it has been updated. After some time, your newly generated username and existing password should work.

  1. Ensure you have submitted a name change form to the local Registrar’s Office (for students) or UA HR (for employees).
  2. Ensure the Registrar’s Office/UA HR has fully processed your name change on record.
  3. After confirming Steps 1 and 2, and ensuring you understand the Warning provided above, open a web browser.
