Connect a Kyocera Printer on Windows

Overview

This article guides UAA employees on connecting their UAA-owned Windows computers to their department's Kyocera printer.

What materials do I need?

  • UAA-owned Windows computer
  • Admin privileges on the computer
  • Connected to the UAA campus network
    • Wirelessly through the UAA Wi-Fi - Anchorage access point, or
    • Wired via ethernet through an active network port
  • Web browser (i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, etc.)
  • IP Address of the Kyocera printer (typically starts with 137.229. or 10.)
  • Model of the Kyocera printer
    • This can also be found when visiting the IP address of the printer in a web browser
  • Job ID of the Kyocera printer
    • Job IDs (a.k.a. Account ID, Job Code) are set up and managed by the printer vendor and the department admin. Not all departments have this set up, so please verify with your department admin.

How do I use this technology?

Important
Before you proceed with the instructions, please review them carefully to ensure you do not skip any steps or encounter any issues.

Install Drivers

  1. Visit the Kyocera Download Center website.
  2. In the Choose an option box, type the model number.

  3. Select the printer model.
  4. Around the middle of the page, download the KX Printer Driver EXE installer.

  5. Accept the terms and conditions.

  6. Once the download completes, launch the installer file.
    1. If the User Access Control prompt appears and requests credentials, as shown in the screenshot below, then you do not have administrative privileges on your computer and cannot proceed. Please refer to the Need additional help or have issues section for further assistance.

  7. When the setup appears, accept the terms and conditions.

  8. When the Resource and Energy Saving prompt comes up, click OK in the bottom-right corner.

  9. Select Custom Install.

  10. If you get a prompt for no devices found in the network, click OK.

  11. In the middle of the window, click Add Custom Device.

  12. A new window will open. Select the Model from the dropdown,

  13. Click Add Port in the bottom left corner of the window.

  14. Another window will open to add the port. Click Next.

  15. Type the printer IP address.

  16. Click Next.
  17. Click Finish to close the window.

  18. Ensure the port is selected in the window; if it’s not, select it and click OK.

  19. The printer should now appear in the column to the right. Double-click KX Driver in the bottom window to add that driver. Your window should look like the image below.

  20. Click Install in the bottom-right corner.

  21. A new window will open, showing the installation status. Once successfully installed, the window will look like this. Click Finish to close the window.

  22. The Kyocera printer has now been added to your computer. You can now close the Kyocera Product Library windows.

Add Job ID

If your department and printer vendor have set up a Job ID (a.k.a. Account ID, Job Code), please follow these steps to add it into Windows. Not all departments have this set up, so please verify with your department admin.

  1. Click the Windows logo on the bottom of your screen to open the Start Menu.
  2. In the top search bar, type in Printer.
  3. Click Printers & scanners from the search results.

  4. In this new Settings window, click the Kyocera printer to add the Job ID to.

  5. Click Printing properties.

  6. On the bottom of this new window, click Change Properties
    1. If the User Access Control prompt appears and requests credentials, then you do not have administrative privileges on your computer and cannot proceed. Please refer to the Need additional help or have issues section for further assistance.

  7. Click the Device Settings tab on the top right.

  8. Click Adminstrator...

  9. In the Administrator Settings window, click Job Accounting

  10. Click the Job accounting checkbox.
  11. Under Use specific account ID, type in your department's Job ID.

  12. Click OK on the bottom right to complete the setup.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to print, follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Ensure you are connected to the UAA campus network
    • Wirelessly through the UAA Wi-Fi - Anchorage access point, or
    • Wired via ethernet through an active network port
  2. Ensure that drivers are properly installed.
  3. Ensure the Job ID is properly added within Windows.
  4. Check if the Kyocera printer is selected before sending the print job. For example, in Google Chrome's print dialogue:

Need additional help or have issues

For issues with the Kyocera printer itself, please coordinate with a department admin and the printer vendor. If expedited support is required, our Field Services team may be able to troubleshoot the issue. Requests can be submitted at any time using the appropriate Support for Issues with University Computer(s) form. Requests generate a Ticket, which will be worked on in order of received and urgency by UAA Employees with the knowledge and permissions to assist with the request.
