Connect to the UAA VPN with Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client

Overview

This articles provides instructions for how to connect to the UAA virtual private network (VPN) with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client for Windows and Mac operating systems. It also advises which programs require a VPN connection and which programs do not.

Download/Installation

  1. Click https://anc-vpn01.uaa.alaska.edu (link will open in a new window).
  2. The Group dropdown box should have ANC-UAA-VPN selected.
  3. Enter your UA username and password in the appropriate fields.
  4. Click Login. You will be taken to a new page to download the install file.
  5. There will be a blue button in the middle of the window. If you are using a Mac, it will say Download for macOS. If you are using Windows, it will say Download for Windows.
  6. For Windows, a file named anyconnect-win-4.8.02045-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.exe will download. This filename may vary slightly for macOS. Look for the file in your Downloads folder.
  7. From Downloads, double-click the file to begin the installation, following the prompts.
  8. Click Finish on the last window to complete the installation.

 

Connect to the UAA VPN

  1. If you are using Windows, find the program called Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client under the Cisco folder in the Start menu. If you are using a Mac, find the program under the Cisco folder in the Applications folder. Or find the program on the taskbar (Windows) or dock (Mac). Open the program.
  2. If connecting after a new installation, enter anc-vpn01.uaa.alaska.edu into the dropdown field. Click Connect.
  3. The Group dropdown box should have ANC-UAA-VPN selected.
  4. Enter your UA username and password in the appropriate fields. Click Ok.
  5. You will see the Cisco AnyConnect Client is connected when a small, gold padlock appears on the icon in the system tray at the lower-right corner of the screen. (You may need to click the small arrow to see it.)
  6. If the Cisco AnyConnect Client does not connect, a yellow alert triangle will appear in the program. Check that you are connected to the internet or that your UA username/password are correct.

Disconnect from the UAA VPN

  1. Right-click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client icon in the system tray.
  2. Select Open.
  3. In the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client window, choose Disconnect. 
  4. You will see the Cisco AnyConnect Client is disconnected when the small, gold padlock disappears from the icon in the system tray at the lower-right corner of the screen. (You may need to click the small arrow to see it.)
